Definition of Plagiarism.
Plagiarism is considered to be:
– the use of texts, ideas, data, or results of other authors without proper citation;
– verbatim or paraphrased reproduction of others’ materials without indicating the source;
– presenting others’ results as one’s own;
– use of materials without appropriate permission or license.
Definition of Self-Plagiarism.
Self-plagiarism is considered to be:
– reuse of one’s own previously published materials without proper disclosure;
– submission of previously published results as new;
– duplication of significant parts of text across publications.
Limited use of previously published materials is allowed, provided proper citation and clear distinction between new and previous results.
Manuscript Screening.
Screening is carried out before the start of peer review and (if necessary) additionally at any stage of the editorial process. The results of the screening are evaluated by the editorial board taking into account the nature of similarities, the context of text usage, and the presence of proper citations. The editorial board does not use fixed threshold values (percentages) as the sole criterion for evaluating plagiarism.
All manuscripts are screened for text similarity using specialized software:
StrikePlagiarism.com
Interpretation of Text Similarities.
Text similarities are not considered plagiarism in cases of:
– standard formulations (for example, description of methods);
– properly formatted quotations;
– commonly used terminology;
– bibliographic lists.
Each case is analyzed individually in accordance with COPE recommendations.
Editorial Actions in Case of Detected Plagiarism.
In the event of identifying signs of plagiarism, the editorial board may:
– request explanations or revision of the manuscript;
– require proper formatting of citations;
– reject the manuscript;
– apply sanctions in accordance with the Research Misconduct Policy.
Actions in Case of Plagiarism Detected After Publication.
If plagiarism is detected after publication, the editorial board:
– initiates an investigation;
– may publish a correction or an expression of concern;
– in case of confirmed violation, performs retraction;
– informs relevant institutions (if necessary).
Published materials are not removed without trace, but are accompanied by an appropriate editorial notice.
Authors’ Responsibilities.
Authors are obliged to:
– submit only original works;
– properly cite all used sources;
– obtain permission for the use of third-party materials;
– ensure that the manuscript is not submitted to other publications simultaneously.
Responsibilities of Reviewers and Editors.
Reviewers and editors are obliged to ensure objective evaluation, report any suspicions of plagiarism, and must not use manuscript materials for their own purposes.
Use of Third-Party Materials.
The use of tables, figures, illustrations, or other third-party materials is permitted only if:
– permission or an appropriate license is obtained;
– the source is properly indicated.
