General Principles of Ethical Oversight.
The editorial board requires that all research submitted for publication be conducted in compliance with:
– international ethical standards for research;
– national legislation of the country where the research was conducted;
– principles of protection of the rights, dignity, and safety of research participants.
Research must be conducted ethically, transparently, and without causing harm to participants. This policy applies to all manuscripts regardless of the field of study.
Research Involving Human Participants.
For research involving human participants, authors are required to obtain prior approval from the relevant ethics committee and indicate in the manuscript the name of the approving body, as well as the number and date of the decision. Authors must ensure that voluntary informed consent is obtained from all participants and guarantee the right of participants to withdraw at any stage. Informed consent is a fundamental requirement of ethical research and must include information about the purpose, risks, and use of data. If ethical approval was not required, authors must provide justification and/or indicate the relevant regulatory act or decision of the competent authority. In cases where open or anonymized data are used, authors must indicate that such data do not allow identification of participants and do not require separate ethical approval. Research involving human participants must comply with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki or equivalent international bioethics standards.
Research Involving Vulnerable Groups.
If the research involves vulnerable categories (children, persons with disabilities, patients, etc.), authors are required to:
– obtain consent from legal representatives;
– ensure an enhanced level of protection of participants’ rights;
– justify the involvement of such groups.
Research Involving Animals.
In the case of research involving animals, authors must:
– obtain approval from the relevant ethics committee;
– adhere to the principles of humane treatment;
– describe the conditions of housing, care, and minimization of animal suffering.
Such research must comply with national and international bioethics standards.
Protection of Personal Data in Research Involving Humans.
When working with personal data, authors are required to:
– comply with the Law of Ukraine «On Personal Data Protection»;
– ensure confidentiality and anonymization of data;
– prevent identification of participants without their separate consent for publication.
Ethical Statements in the Manuscript.
Each manuscript containing results of research involving humans, animals, or personal data must include a separate section «Ethical Approval and Consent to Participate», which includes:
– information on ethical approval;
– confirmation of obtaining informed consent;
– information on personal data protection (if applicable).
The journal reserves the right to request additional documents confirming compliance with ethical standards.
Principle of Responsibility.
Authors bear full responsibility for:
– compliance with ethical standards during the conduct of the research;
– accuracy of the information provided;
– availability of all necessary approvals and consents.
Editorial Actions in Case of Violations of Ethical Standards.
The editorial board checks for the presence of ethical statements at the stage of preliminary review and may request supporting documents. The editorial board also involves reviewers in assessing the ethical aspects of the research. In the event of identifying violations of ethical standards (absence of consent, data manipulation, breach of confidentiality, etc.), the editorial board may:
– reject the manuscript;
– initiate additional review;
– publish a correction or perform retraction.
